A printed copy of the letter below was given to all parents/guardians of children in Room 12 today.

Dear Parents/Guardians,

In September, Presentation Senior School’s application for €22,000 funding from Léargas to participate in a Comenius project was approved. The project involves collaborative work between students and teachers in five partner countries over a two year period. Our Comenius partner schools are located in France, Slovakia, Spain, Italy and Poland. We are very excited about the project and we have invited the Junior School to participate in it with us.

In October, Ms. Burke and Ms. Daly from the Senior School, along with Ms. Claffey and Ms. Regan from the Junior School, travelled to Spain to meet the teachers from the partner countries to organise the learning goals and activities for the children participating in the project. These activities are ongoing in Ms. Daly’s class and the children should be able to tell you all about them.

Tomorrow, Ms. Daly, Ms. Burke, Ms. Regan and Ms. Claffey, along with two students from the Senior School, will travel to Italy to work with students and teachers in the Comenius partner schools. In order to avoid disruption to learning in Ms. Daly’s class from Wednesday to Friday of this week, I have asked Ms, Kearney (Learning Support Teacher) to take the class on Wednesday and Ms. Sullivan (Learning Support Teacher) to take the class on Thursday and Friday. Ms. Daly has prepared a comprehensive plan of work for these teachers to complete with the children.

In March 2014, teachers and students from the Comenius partner countries will travel to Ireland and spend some time working with the children and staff in the Presentation Junior and Senior Schools.

The students who are travelling to Italy will make a presentation to all classes about their trip next week. They will upload the presentation to the school website so all parents/guardians will have an opportunity to view it.

Yours faithfully,
