A meeting took place on Wednesday June 18 th
The meeting began at 7pm. The Annual Leadership rRports were presented to the
Board by Claire along with the BOM Annual Report for the school year 2024/25. Claire
informed the Board that we now have an encrypted document for the enrolment process
to the school. Claire thanked Abbi for her hard work on creating this document. Parents
still have the option to apply in writing for a school place, this is another option for
parents to use if they so wish.
Claire informed the Board that there will be interviews for three teaching positions.
Claire informed the Board that the Parents’ Council received a grant of €600 from the
Mullingar Credit Union and were being presented with the cheque this evening.
Many school tours have taken place much to the delight of the pupils.
Claire reported to the Board that she had applied for the school to participate in the new
programme being rolled out by the NCSE ‘Relate’. This programme will tie in very nicely
with our values here in Presentation of forming positive relationships first and it will
coincide with our Restorative Practice which all staff are trained in too.
Claire presented Appendix A Correct deployment of SET resources to the Board.
Our Green School Committee were successful under the guidance of Ciara Nally and
received the school’s ninth green flag- a remarkable achievement. Ciara also received a
Cathaoirleach Award from Westmeath County council for all the work done by the
committee. She received a lovely trophy and a grant of €200 which she collected at a
ceremony in Belvedere House on May 9 th . The committee were treated to a pizza party
on Friday June 13 th when they raised the Green School Flag for Marine Life. Ciara was
congratulated by the Board for her accolades.
Claire informed the Board that all recommendations from the HSA inspection will be in
place by the end of the Summer. The staff car park is to be repainted- cost to be shared
with JNS. Some repair and painting jobs will take place throughout the summer closure.
The Summer programme will begin on Thursday June 26 th and run for two weeks. There
will be a Spanish school operating throughout July in the school too.
Claire informed the Board that our 6 th classes will be graduating Monday June 23 rd . A
prayer service will take place in the Cathedral followed by refreshments in the school
hall. There will also be a surprise breakfast on Friday June 20 th in the school hall. We
wish them all the very best, they were a credit to the school, and we will miss them a lot.
Carmel our sna who has worked with us for over 25 years is retiring at the end of this
school year. There will be a presentation to her on June 24 th on behalf of the BOM and
one from the staff also. We wish her the very best as she embarks on the next phase of
her life and thank her very much for her years of service and dedication.
A meeting took place in the school on Thursday February 13th. All were
present except for Rebecca Eivers who sent her apologies. Claire began the
meeting with a prayer and congratulated Hannah Mulroy on her recent
wedding nuptials.
Claire read the minutes from the previous board meeting.
A discussion took place on replacing the current lighting model with LED
lights, this is in line with the Government’s Sustainable Ireland Policy. Three
quotations had been sought and an agreement was reached.
The following polices were ratified by the Board:
Review of Child Safeguarding Statement, Child Safeguarding Statement and
Risk Assessment Template, Notification regarding the BOM’s review of the Child
Protection Statement, Intimate Care Policy
Claire informed the board that all staff are participating in Restorative
Practice training and that another two hour block of training had taken place
last Tuesday after school (Feb 11 th )
Claire is attending Misneach training at the end of this month for two days
and Catherine is attending days of training for her Tánaiste course.
Claire informed the board about the very successful school musical which
took place in January. She said how proud she was of the children and that
is was a brilliant evening for the whole school community. Claire informed
the board about the successful STEM exhibition which took place at the end
of January. It was lovely to have so many parents call in and see their
children’s work. There is a lovely write-up about it in this week’s edition of
the Westmeath Examiner.
This Saturday Mr Kelly’s 5 th class will perform in the Arts Centre as part of
the Mullingar Voices programme. They have had a music tutor teaching them
songs by local artists every Monday morning for the last number of weeks. It
promises to be a great night based on the last few years experience.
Claire informed the board that on Friday 14 th ,we will celebrate Grandparents’
Day in the school hall. A prayer service will be held and we look forward to
hosting all of our Grandparents.
This week the pupils have been learning all about safety internet. Ms C Nally
has created podcasts and worksheets and a padlet of resources for all
teachers to use with their class.
This week the pupils have also participated in the Food Dudes Programme.
They have sampled many varieties of different fruits and vegetables. There
is lots going on in our school !

MsDonnell and Fr Vincent sent their apologies. Claire began the meeting with
a prayer and offered her condolences to Mr Fry the former principal on the
death of his Mother. Claire read the minutes from the previous board
meeting.
Claire informed the board that the SET position will be readvertised in the
new year. There was one application but the applicant withdrew their
application.
The following polices were ratified by the Board and Patricia volunteered as
the Safety, Health and Welfare officer:
Green Schools Policy, New Parental Complaint Procedures and the Safety,
Health and Welfare statement.
Claire informed the board that the post holders had completed a review of
their post and Patricia signed off on these.
Claire informed the board that the staff are participating in Restorative
Practice training and that there is a 2 hour block next Tuesday after school.
Claire attended Misneach training in November for two days and Catherine
attend 2 days of training for her Tánaiste and DEIS Action Planning course.
Ms O’Neill and Ms C Nally are attending training in STEM in Athlone
Education Centre and staff training has being booked for February as part of
Croke Park Hours.
The school has now had water filters installed. This is an excellent addition
as each class that has a sink now has filtered water for the pupils. The cost
is being covered by Carambola who are the school hot lunch provider.
Ms F Nally is participating in the Creative Schools project and has asked for
the staffroom to be painted as part of a Wellbeing initiative.
Allianz paid a visit to the school and advised that the windows are fit for
purpose.
Claire informed the board that she has begun the Schools Photovoltaic
Programme (SPP). Five quotations must be submitted through the portal to
the Department. Claire advised that we put the E- lighting proposal on hold
pending installation of the solar panels so that it is more cost effective in
terms of energy efficiency.
There are lots of celebrations taking place in the school in the lead up to
Christmas! We have many Christmas plays celebrating the Nativity and our
parents are invited in to watch next week. We have our annual Christmas
raffle and Christmas Jumper Day/Week where funds raised will be donated to
UNICEF’s give to Gaza campaign.

Ms F Nally has being appointed to the position of assistant principal one, we wish her all the
best as she takes on her new role.
Staff are participating in training for this school year in Restorative Practice. This is taking place
over four 2 hour workshops after school. Ms McDonnell has done great work in relation to the
Department’s new anti bullying policy: Bí Cineáltas. There is a pupil notice board and a new tag
line every month at school assembly to promote kindness, friendship etc…
There is a new storage area with a roof underneath the back yard.
Following on from a Confirmation meeting in Cathedral House on 16/09, our school’s
Confirmation date is March 29 th 2025. We have the first of our preparatory masses Oct 6 th . We
also have Catechist students from Notre Dame working very closely with the 6 th classes.
Once again we are participating in the Challenge to Change project- This is funded by the
Presentation Sisters in which a class explores the Sustainable Developmental Goals. Ms
McDonnell will lead this project with her fourth class.
Our Parents Council is back up and running, please consider joining if you are not already a
member. We had a speaker from the National Parents Council here in school at a recent parent
coffee morning. We had a bag pack in Dunnes on Oct 11 th to raise much needed funds for our
autism class. A huge thank you to our parents and staff who turned out and helped.
One of our fourth classes paid a visit to Birr Castle as part of National Science Week where they
met with Ireland’s female astronaut Dr.Niamh Shaw.
The local volunteer group the ‘Men’s Shed’ tidied up our school’s sensory garden and we got
mulch for the plants which was very kindly sponsored by John Lynch Tree Felling.
Our sixth classes have begun rehearsals for their musical ‘Jungle Book’ – more details to follow!
